Monarch Joint Venture

History

Prior to becoming a standalone nonprofit in 2018, the Monarch Joint Venture spent nearly a decade as a program within the University of Minnesota. Convening and connecting a network of over 120 organizations, the MJV is a leader in monarch conservation nationwide. The four priority areas for program work include habitat conservation, education, science, and partnership. With approximately 20 staff spread across 10 states, the MJV offers a variety of monarch and pollinator conservation services.

Strategic Priorities

Foster authentic relationships with a diverse set of stakeholders to increase mutual trust, resulting in greater magnitude and coordination of monarch conservation efforts nationally.

Be the primary trusted resource for our partners and the public seeking guidance or a distilled understanding of scientific or technical knowledge as it applies to conservation or education work they are undertaking for monarchs.

Cultivate a strong network of researchers, research entities, and partner science programs/initiatives that utilize MJV tools, trust the MJV to distill and disseminate scientific communications to broader audiences, and work collaboratively to advance monarch conservation research.

Expand our capacity to deliver train-the-trainer education opportunities to our partner network to enable them to effectively engage and educate their audiences in monarch conservation.

Leverage all education and science priorities to increase the mobilization and expansion of habitat conservation in all landscapes to ensure long-term resilience of monarch populations.

Support organizational leadership at all levels of board and staff that keeps us maintains mission focus and cultivates a healthy work culture.

Annual Budget: $2 million – Earned Income, Foundations, Individual Contributions, Government Grants or Contracts
