Propel Nonprofits Receives Donation from Yield Giving

Henry Jiménez

Last week, Propel received an $8 million unrestricted gift from Yield Giving, an organization established by philanthropist MacKenzie Scott. The donation came to Propel through Yield Giving’s “Quiet Research” process. Yield Giving undertakes thorough, confidential research to identify organizations working to advance the opportunities of people in underserved communities and that demonstrate a “high potential for sustained positive impact.” The gift, like all of Yield Giving’s donations, is unrestricted, and will allow Propel to support its mission of fueling the impact and effectiveness of nonprofits with guidance, expertise, and capital.

This is a historic moment for Propel. We’ve never received this level of unrestricted support, and we are prepared to steward this capital with the care and gratitude it deserves. As an organization that works with other nonprofits when they receive investments like this, we’re listening to our own advice and taking the time we need to be strategic about the way we use these funds.

In our most recent annual report, I promised to “keep it 100,” which to me means sharing news whether it is good or bad. I wanted to share this amazing news because it was important for me to have you hear it directly from us. It is my hope that each one of you gets recognition and investment like this one day soon. In the meantime, Propel will continue to both advocate for increased capital for nonprofits in the form of grants, contracts, and loans, and support nonprofits throughout their organizational lifecycles.

I truly can’t overstate how surprised and humbled our team is. The whole team at Propelؘ—staff, board, volunteers, and committee members—love nonprofits and work to champion them every day. I am so happy to see the work of this team recognized like this, and I think it extends to those who have worked at or supported Propel over the years. We are so grateful for this opportunity and look forward to continuing to invest our energy and resources to be the champion of you and all the work you do.
