Minnesota Deaf Muslim Community

The Minnesota Deaf Muslim Community’s (MDMC) mission is to ensure equitable access to communication, education, and resources for individuals who are Deaf, Deaf Plus (hearing loss with an additional disability), DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing (DHH), with a focus on those who are Black, Indigenous, and other people of color (BIPOC). Organization Description 

TaikoArts Midwest (TAM) was formed to provide our community with high quality taiko performances, to support taiko artists, and to use taiko to strengthen and build communities. TAM fully understands the challenges and importance of representing Asian arts and artists in our Minnesota landscape, believing in the emotional, cultural, and physical health benefits of teaching taiko, especially in our schools. 

Project Description 

Key Activities for this project include increasing staff capacity, filling gaps to successfully launch a strong capital campaign that will meet critical fundraising metrics and ensuring sustainability within the organization.  

The Man Up Club

Organization Description 

The Man Up Club is a nonprofit mentor leadership organization developed to transform the lives of young black males. Its mission is to develop young boys into men of character. The Man Up Club works tirelessly empowering young men from disadvantaged backgrounds by offering a safe space for mentorship, discussions, and implementing strategies to increase the quality of life for its members. 

Project Description 

Key activities are staff expansion including the part time positions of program director, security guard. photographer and two mentor leaders. The Man Up Club also plans to contract with additional bookkeepers, grant writers and social media managers. All of this to enhance program delivery, outreach, and improve financial systems. 

The Organization of Liberians in Minnesota (OLM)

Organization Description 

OLM is a membership based nonprofit that caters to the needs of 40,000+ Liberians in Minnesota. OLM provides social services, education, housing, health, employment, and other social initiatives. OLM  has met the needs of the Liberian refugees and immigrants in Minnesota.  

Project Description 

Key activities goals are developing policies and procedures, identifying a digital system to track office and event space rental. They plan to set up and integrate space management system with their website, train staff and purchase equipment and materials required for service expansion. 

The Park Place 

Minneapolis, MN 55408

Organization Description 

The Park Place (TPP) exists to close the opportunity gap for Latine youth, families, and community members in Minneapolis through equitable access to leadership, education, advocacy, and preservation. TPP desires to see all youth and families in our community thrive when given the support and resources that are often difficult to access for Latine individuals. 

Project Description 

TPP will increase program staff hours and add FTEs to fully staff all programs appropriately. The Executive Director will train program staff on programmatic activities, responsibilities, and roles. The Executive Director will undergo advanced financial training. Training will also be given to board members to better understand their roles and responsibilities.  

The SEAD Project

Organization Description 

SEAD creates safe and welcoming spaces for Southeast Asian diaspora communities to share and explore their culture, tell stories, make art, and grow as leaders. SEAD uses art, creativity, and storytelling to empower people to address community challenges through activism, engagement, and community building.

Project Description 

Key activities will include staff training and professional development focused on capacity development including fundraising, board-staff communication, and partner data management.  Staff will be able to enroll in specific training opportunities to advance their professional goals.  SEAD will implement a series of board trainings to improve board capacity to support fundraising, governance, nonprofit financial literacy, and implementation of by-laws and articles of incorporation. 

The Urban Village

Organization Description 

The Urban Village is a community-led space for young adults and youth in the Karen and Karenni communities. The key priorities of The Urban Village are to preserve Karen and Karenni culture and identity, facilitate co-created spaces for both individual and community healing, and to participate in the fulfillment of dreams identified by young people in these communities.  

Project Description 

The key activities would be oriented around organizational workforce development to invest in the development of our staff and community contractors in the area of grant writing and fundraising. The Urban Village would like to hire a full time AYO program coordinator (Karen or Karenni individual) to expand program capacity while also freeing up staff hours to be devoted to grant writing and development.  

Tibyan Community Center

In 2020, the Tibyan Community Center was established to provide a comprehensive educational environment. It serves as a hub for academic enrichment, offering after-school tutoring, mentoring, and creative activities. This expansion reflects our commitment to creating an inclusive space where students can thrive socially, emotionally, and academically. The Tibyan Community Center shares a common goal to empower well-rounded youth within Muslim communities and ensure their development and success. 

Project Description 

Tibyan Community Center plans to development of robust financial system and compensate lead program staff.  Tibyan Community Center will upgrade technology and improve the academic atmosphere. The center will also purchase equipment to promote athletic activities and other programs. 

Wanton Injustice Legal Detail 

Minneapolis, MN 55402

Organization Description 

Wanton Injustice Legal Detail (WILD) provides a platform through which Twin Cities Diversity in Practice (TCDIP) lawyers and members can actively combat anti-Black racism and all forms of racism through direct support and partnerships with community organizations currently rooted in this work. WILD is focused on creating a coalition of legal professionals to strategically assist active and effective efforts in our communities.  

Project Description 

WILD plans to develop a shared language around racial justice programming and grow individual board member’s understanding of the history and causes of racial inequities to inspire actions for change. They will facilitate racial justice training for the staff and board. WILD will also strengthen their networks and partnerships for strategic growth and programing.  

We Resolve 

Little Canada, MN 55117

Organization Description 

We Resolve stands with, and supports loved ones, their families, and communities as they go through the criminal legal process. We Resolve’s model is designed to give a voice and support to those for whose voices are most often silenced.  

Project Description 

Key activities include moving executive director to full time, to provide the executive director appropriate training and coaching, and to increase administrative support in grant writing. We Resolve also plans to contract with BIPOC-led agencies to develop strategic partnerships with community organizations, add BIPOC-focused public relations support website and social media development and content. 

Women’s Initiative for Self-Empowerment

Organization Description 

Women’s Initiative for Self-Empowerment (WISE) supports immigrant and refugee women, girls and those on the feminine gender spectrum in their journey of self-actualization through culturally-responsive education, advocacy, systems change and resource development.  

Project Description 

WISE plans to hire a Fundraising consultant to coach the Communications and Development Manager and to create content for individual and major gift asks and fundraising events. WISE will also purchase fundraising software and create an infrastructure that could sustain individual giving, major gift and capital campaign fundraising 

Youth Leadership Initiative 

Minneapolis, MN 55417

Organization Description 

The Youth Leadership Initiative (YLI) cultivates the next generation of diverse, multicultural leaders to advance racial equity and social justice. The two programs of YLI “The After School Youth Program” focuses on the leadership development of Black, Indigenous, and Person of Color (BIPOC) high school students, and “The YLI Institute” serves as a catalyst for transformation in systems that engage youth. 

Project Description 

YLI plans to engage a consultant with expertise in nonprofit and youth development evaluation to design relevant and effective evaluation tools. YLI will develop a comprehensive process for involving youth in evaluation using the Youth Quality Program Assessment (YPQA) tool.
