The Aliveness Project, Inc

History

Founded in 1985 as one of Minnesota’s first HIV/AIDS service organizations, The Aliveness Project is a recognized community leader in serving the needs of individuals living with HIV/AIDS. A membership-based non-profit created by people living with HIV/AIDS, the organization remains committed to eliminating barriers that prevent persons with HIV from enjoying full participation in society. The Aliveness Project links people living with HIV to resources for leading healthy, self-directed lives. Its vision is a Minnesota where there is decreased stigma of HIV/AIDS, increased access to services, and better health outcomes for people living with HIV. Furthermore, the organization strives to ensure that members feel supported as part of a safe community center that maximizes their health and well-being. The Aliveness Project’s staff reflects the epidemic, delivers programs that evolve from member needs within a changing environment, and dedicates itself to the overall health of The Aliveness community.

Strategic Priorities

Three core approaches define The Aliveness Project’s ongoing activities:

1) Service Delivery: Programs (case management, prevention, outreach, care linkage, medical nutrition therapy) and services (meals, food shelf, integrative therapies, member services) emphasize skill-building and self-determination for improving overall physical and emotional health outcomes for persons living with HIV and, when necessary, fostering connections with appropriate resources to overcome barriers to health and well-being.

2) Social Support: The Aliveness Project’s community center model provides a safe, supportive forum for building community, strengthening the voices of people living with HIV and their loved ones, and improving quality of life for people living with and affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

3) Education, Awareness, Erasure of Stigma: Members, volunteers, and staff provide scientifically accurate information to newly-diagnosed individuals and their families, as well as the broader community, with the goal of eliminating HIV stigma and influencing policies that impact HIV prevention and care.
